About Us

Bill Stephan is a senior consultant at Sease Gerig where he advises clients on public affairs strategy, executive communications, stakeholder engagement, and issues management.

 

Bill has decades of leadership experience spanning higher education, healthcare, and government. He most recently served as vice president at Indiana University, where he spent 20 years overseeing public affairs, government relations, communications and marketing, and economic engagement before retiring in 2023.

 

In addition to his work at IU, Bill previously served as senior vice president for corporate communications and community relations at IU Health, Indiana University’s healthcare partner. Prior to that, he served as chief of staff to former Indianapolis Mayor Stephen Goldsmith, where he led the city's workforce development initiatives. He also served as chief magistrate of the Marion Superior Court, Juvenile Division.

 

Bill holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Arizona State University and a law degree from the Indiana University McKinney School of Law. He and his wife, Carol, have lived in Carmel for more than 20 years and have two children and five grandchildren.
